where can we donate a huge entertainment center?

The in-laws dropped off a 9′ entertainment center because my husband said he wanted the 60″ television that went with it. Now we’ve got a massive piece of furniture that wont fit in our home and don’t know how to get rid of it. It’s a high end piece that was used for less than a year and it’s in fantastic condition.

We’ve tried selling via craigslist and only scammers are interested, we’ve tried local consignment shops but they said there is no demand for DLP accommodating entertainment centers.

We’ve tried donating to the arc of texas (we’re in dallas) but they can’t accept it due to its size. Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity also won’t take large furniture. I’m at a loss of how to get rid of this thing. I need it out of my garage, ideally before the end of 2010 so the in-laws can write the donation off on their taxes (or cash in hand is fine). I’ll take any suggestions anyone might have. I’m desperate!

I would try community centers, churches (ones with centers for meetings etc); possibly womens shelters, half-way houses, rehab centers etc. You may just have to put it outside with a sign: $100 or something. Some things just can not be donated. Sorry. Your parents may just have to forget this tax write off(as a tax write off it would not be big anyway, as the price of used furniture plummets like cars, you don’t get the new cost value). :(
